Living Faith: A Seventh-day Adventist Perspective
Living faith is more than just a belief system; it is an active, dynamic relationship with God that transforms our daily lives. For Seventh-day Adventists, this principle is rooted in the teachings of the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ. In this second article (Read Part I Here), we will explore further what it means to live a faith-filled life, the importance of community, the role of the Holy Spirit, and how our faith influences our actions and decisions.
Faith, as described in Hebrews 11:1, is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This definition highlights faith’s dual nature: it embodies both assurance and conviction. For Seventh-day Adventists, faith is not blind belief but a reasoned trust based on the character of God and His promises.
We have Biblical Examples of Living Faith
Throughout Scripture, we find numerous examples of individuals who has exceptional faith such as
Abraham:
Known as the father of faith, Abraham’s willingness to leave his homeland and trust God’s promise of a great nation exemplifies true living faith (Genesis 12:1-4).
Moses: Leading the Israelites out of Egypt required immense faith. Moses’ reliance on God’s guidance at each juncture illustrates how faith manifests in obedience (Exodus 3-14).
The Disciples: The twelve disciples left everything to follow Jesus, demonstrating that living faith often requires sacrifice and commitment (Matthew 4:19-20).
These stories remind us that living faith involves action, trust, and a willingness to rely on God in every aspect of life.

Jesus Christ as the Ultimate Example
Jesus Christ is the embodiment of living faith. His life and ministry provide the perfect model for how we should live out our faith. From His humble birth to His sacrificial death and glorious resurrection, Jesus demonstrated unwavering faith in His Father’s plan.
Jesus and the Sabbath
For Seventh-day Adventists, the Sabbath holds a special significance. It is a day of rest and renewal, where we can deepen our relationship with God. Jesus often emphasized the importance of the Sabbath as a time for healing and restoration (Mark 2:27-28). Living faith acknowledges and honors this sacred time, allowing believers to reconnect with their Creator.
On the other hand, when we look at our Service to Others, Living faith naturally extends beyond the church walls. Acts of service and kindness reflect Christ’s love and can lead others to Him. The Adventist emphasis on health, education, and humanitarian work is a testament to the belief that faith must be accompanied by action (James 2:17).
The Role of the Holy Spirit; Guidance and Empowerment
The Holy Spirit is a crucial part of living faith. As believers, we are not left to navigate our faith journey alone; the Holy Spirit guides, empowers, and transforms us. In John 14:26, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit as a Comforter and Advocate, reminding us that we have divine assistance in our daily lives.
The Impact of Living Faith on Daily Life in terms of Decision-Making.
Living faith influences our choices and decisions. When faced with challenges, believers are called to seek God’s wisdom and guidance (James 1:5). This reliance on God enables us to make choices that align with our values and beliefs.
Lastly, as we are coping with trials, Life is filled with trials and hardships, but living faith provides a framework for coping with these challenges. Romans 5:3-5 teaches that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope. Trusting God during difficult times strengthens our faith and deepens our relationship with Him.
