Abraham’s faith

Taking the example of Abraham in Genesis 22:1-14 Abraham’s willingness to obey God’s command to sacrifice Isaac demonstrates living faith , when Isaacs asked his father of the sacrifice Abraham answered him saying that “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering“. This points out that Abraham’s commitment to God, having faith that God had better plans for him even after losing his son.

From the story of Abraham we can learn many lessons and the key characteristics of living faith as noted below

  • 1. Personal relationship with God; Abraham had a deep relationship with God, marked by intimacy, trust, and communication.
  • 2. Trust and reliance on God; Abraham trusted God’s sovereignty, wisdom, and goodness, and relied on Him for strength, guidance, and provision, He knew that God was the source of everything, sometimes as Christians we tend to forget that God is the source of everything and always want to trust ourselves with what God has given us which was not the case with Abraham.
  • 3. Obedience to God’s will; The willingness to surrender his only son Isaac for the sake of God demonstrated Abraham’s obedience to serving God. Let’s ask ourselves a question; how much are we willing to lose for the service of God?

Stepping out in faith

Living faith is not a mere theory, or speculation, but a practical principle, that guides and controls the life .Faith without works is dead (James 2:26), But faith working by love, and purifying the soul, will be manifested in good works.

Living faith is demonstrated through actions, such as serving others, sharing the Gospel, and standing up for justice and righteousness, Always choosing to do good to others, taking care of the sick, feeding the hungry being kind, respecting others, and all acts of humanity can reflect a Christ like character and hence exercising our faith through actions

Trust and Faith

Having in mind that true Faith is not a mere statement, but a living, working principle, that hold of the soul and transforms our life. Trusting in God is one of the fundamental principle of faith, believing that God’s timing is the best and counting your blessings day by day give hope to carry on. Always get time sit down and meditate upon the good things the lord has done for you this gives us hope and builds our faith that God will do it again.

Faith is not just a feeling or an emotion, but a choice to believe in God’s promises and provisions. When we have faith in God, we trust Him to fulfill His promises. Conversely, when we trust God, we demonstrate our faith in Him.

How can we cultivate faith and trust in our lives?

  • 1. Read and meditate on God’s Word: Psalm 119:130 says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Reading and meditating on Scripture helps us understand God’s character and build our faith and trust in Him.
  • 2. Pray and seek God’s presence: Prayer is an essential way to cultivate faith and trust. As we seek God’s presence and guidance, we build our confidence in His goodness and wisdom.
  • 3. Reflect on God’s faithfulness: Remembering God’s faithfulness in the past helps us trust Him for the future. As Deuteronomy 7:9 says, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
  • In conclusion therefore, we need to constantly connect with our God as a way of developing our faith. We don’t have enough strength on our own to have the outstanding faith but if allow God to mightily work in us, we shall be able unwavering faith that is not shaken even amidst trials and cares of life.
